Empowering Youth Through Vocational Training

In the Agago District, many young people have been left behind by the traditional education system, especially those who were affected by the long years of conflict. Recognizing this gap, The Access Centre Uganda (TAC) launched a Vocational Training Program aimed at equipping youth with practical skills to build sustainable livelihoods.

Building Futures with Skills

The Vocational Training Program focuses on trades such as carpentry, tailoring, welding, and mechanics. These skills are in high demand and provide immediate employment opportunities for the trainees. The program also includes essential life skills training, such as financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and leadership development, to ensure the participants can effectively manage their new careers.

Success Stories

One of the shining examples of this program is Peter Ocen, a 23-year-old from Adilang Sub-County. After losing his parents during the LRA insurgency, Peter struggled to find a stable job and support his younger siblings. He enrolled in the TAC’s Vocational Training Program for welding and has since transformed his life. Peter now runs a successful welding business, employing two other young men from his village and providing for his family.

“I never thought I could achieve so much,” says Peter. “TAC gave me the tools and the confidence to build a better future. I am proud of what I have accomplished, and I am grateful for the support from TAC.”

Expanding Reach and Impact

Since its inception, the program has trained over 200 youths, many of whom have gone on to start their own businesses or secure employment in local industries. The success of the program has attracted the attention of various stakeholders, leading to partnerships that have expanded the reach and impact of the training.
